Heritage
For more than 150 years, Saint Joe’s has carried forward the vision of the Sisters of Charity: that every person deserves a place where they are loved, respected, and given the opportunity to thrive.
What began as the St. Joseph Infant Asylum has grown into a community of care that includes residential services, adult day programs, respite care, and inclusive summer day camps. Through every era of change, one thing has remained constant: our unwavering belief in the value of every person.
OUR STORY
Through the Years
For more than a century and a half, Saint Joe’s has evolved to meet the changing needs of the people we serve. From our beginnings as a place of refuge for mothers and children to our role today as a leader in compassionate care for individuals with developmental disabilities, every chapter of our story reflects the same values of love, dignity, and possibility that define us today.
1873
St. Joseph Infant Asylum opened its doors as a branch of Good Samaritan Hospital for women and children.
1875
The home became independent from the hospital, operated by the Sisters of Charity as a hospital, convent, and chapel.
1954
The name officially changed to St. Joseph Infant and Maternity Home.
1967
The Sisters moved to our current location in Sharonville, where Saint Joe’s continues to serve today.
1973
In 1973, Saint Joe’s marked its 100th anniversary. Over its first century, nearly 15,000 babies had been adopted through the home, and more than 10,000 women had received care and support. As community needs evolved, the Sisters began a new chapter, shifting their mission to serve individuals with disabilities and securing licensure from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
1990
President George H.W. Bush named St. Joseph Home as one of his Thousand Points of Light praising the work we do toward solving one of our community’s challenges.
1998
Respite services began, extending our care to more families throughout the community.
2013
Opened our first Adult Day Program.
2015
Opened our first Community Home.
2022
Partnered with Hamilton County to operate the Alice House Respite Center.
2025
We introduced our new name, Saint Joe’s, and our tagline, Community of Possibility. This reflects who we are today: a welcoming, dynamic organization that honors our founding legacy while looking boldly to the future.
